Welcome to the JRB Studio of Fine Woodworking
Please take some time to explore the website and learn about JRB Studio of Fine Woodworking.
I have created this website because the craft of woodworking means a lot to me and I want to share it with others. It is a passion of mine and I enjoy the many different aspects of it. I like the challenges that come with each and every project as I try to improve my skills and try to learn something new every time. Woodworking, for me, is a way to bring out the implicit beauty contained in the wood. Being an engineer, it’s my nature to figure out how things come apart and go together, and woodworking has been a perfect avenue for this. The number of various joints and methods of cutting, trimming, shaping, and joining wood seems limitless. Also, woodworking gives me the opportunity to use math, geometry, and trigonometry on a regular basis, and I really enjoy the “how did they do that” and “how can I do that” challenges that are presented before me.
One thing I really enjoy about woodworking is that no two projects are ever exactly alike. Even if projects are similar, by the very nature of, well, nature, each board is different and unique in its own way, thereby making each project different and unique. Woodworking, for me, is a way to use what is presented before me and create something special. It is working within the confines/limits of the physical nature of the wood at hand, but being limited only by imagination on what is really “inside” that wood.
Woodworking is a process of continual learning, a refinement and honing of skills to make each piece to the best of my ability. It can be challenging at times, but is also very rewarding. Please contact me if you have any questions. Enjoy!
